Make your own improvisational pieced linen cushion cover and add some slow stitch embroidery. The kit includes Colette Moscrop hand screen printed fabric, 3 linen threads, cotton wadding (batting) a linen fat quarter for the backing and a printed booklet to guide you through the piecing.
The instruction booklet guides you through the improvisational piecing with plenty of colour images. There are tips on how to get a balance across your piece and create an interesting cushion cover. By stitching through the cushion top and cotton batting, the cushion gains a lovely texture once you've added your decorative stitches. Click here for more tips on adding the stitches.
The fabrics enclosed will be a co-ordinated selection of prints and colours. Each pack will be slightly different so your cushion cover will be unique to you. The fabrics for the front of the cushion are mostly printed on the natural linen, there are a few pieces of the white based fabrics to add some contrast.
The kit will make a 48cm / 19" square cushion cover.
You will need:
a sewing machine to piece together your panels, though it could all be done by hand if you prefer
needles for hand embroidery
sewing scissors
snippets of extra fabrics to add as patches (optional)
Currently available in the following colours:
- denim, cornflower and greys
- black, greys and white
- apple green and stone grey
- red and blush
The fabrics are hand screen printed in my London studio.
- printed with water based eco friendly inks
- heat set and fully washable at 30 degrees. I'd recommend washing your finished cushion cover by hand and allowing to dry naturally. Avoid wringing as this will crease the linen, roll in a towel and gently squeeze excess water out.
Small imperfections may be present, these will be minor and part of the beauty of buying handprinted fabrics.
Some shrinkage will occur after washing, this is a feature of natural fibres, please allow for this or prewash before using in your projects.
